Position
Summary:
Under general supervision collects venous and capillary blood specimens from patients.
Performs routine clerical duties and simple point-of-care testing.
Must maintain a cooperative working relationship with patients, patients' families, medical staff, interdepartmental and intradepartmental personnel.
Communicates with and assists in direct care of patients and families.
Ensures timely flow of patients and assists the healthcare provider to provide optimal care to patients of all age groups.
Essential Functions:
Maintains the patient file records in accordance with departmental system Follows the appropriate clinical technique for obtaining blood specimens, collects other body fluids, nasal swabs, and throat swabs for laboratory testing.
Ensures that specimen requirements are met at the time of collection and maintains specimen integrity.
Requests/orders supplies as necessary in order to keep materials on hand.
Enters point-of-care laboratory test results into the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) in a timely manner.
Performs bedside glucose tests, records result in the EMR.
Performs quality control tests according to the department procedure and testing schedule.
Records the results in the quality control log.
Contributes to the general clinic functions and institutional needs.
Attends regular department staff meetings and in-service training.

Maintains compliance with clinic and hospital policies and procedures, as well as clinic safety procedures.
Assists with rooming patients at the EZ Care Clinic as needed.
Patient rooming duties include taking basic vital signs (blood pressure, pulse ox, heart rate, respiration rate), obtaining a thorough medical history including, but not limited to problems list, surgical history, family history, social history, medication list, and medication allergies.
This position may at any time obtain specimens from neonates, infants, children, adolescents, and geriatrics.
This person must have appropriate knowledge and skills to perform laboratory related duties for these populations.

High school education or the equivalent Phlebotomy skills for wide range of patient ages is preferred.
Typing skills and experience with computer systems is preferred.
Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
